Street Serenade

Cities teach us how not to look.

We pass faces, gestures, and private dramas as though they belong to the pavement. Street Serenade began as my refusal to keep walking.

Made across American streets over several decades, these photographs move between observation and encounter. I am drawn to the moment when a stranger, a shadow, and the architecture surrounding them briefly become inseparable. Alleys, sidewalks, doorways, and transit spaces become temporary stages where private lives are visible for an instant.

The work does not attempt to explain the people within it. It preserves their mystery while asking who is noticed, who is overlooked, and what remains after the city moves on.

Light and shadow become a form of memory—the beginning of nostalgia before the moment has disappeared.

Street Serenade is my record of brief human contact and my attempt to listen with my eyes.
