Beyond the postcard.

Florida is the place I have spent most of my life trying to understand.

When you live somewhere long enough, familiarity can make you blind. You travel the same roads, pass the same buildings, and move through the landscape without really seeing it. The extraordinary becomes ordinary. You stop participating and become a quiet passenger inside your own life.

This collection is my attempt to look again.

Not at the Florida sold on postcards. Not the white beaches, crowded theme parks, glass towers, and manufactured sunshine.

I photograph the Florida behind it.

Faded motels and sun-bleached signs.
Old men resting beneath fluorescent light.
Strip malls surrendering to weeds.
Concrete stained by rust, rain, and air-conditioning units dripping through another humid afternoon.

This is a place where beauty and neglect often share the same parking lot.

Palm trees rise behind abandoned buildings. Wildflowers push through broken pavement. Storm clouds gather above convenience stores, roadside churches, trailer parks, and empty swimming pools. The sunlight can make almost anything beautiful, even as the heat slowly pulls it apart.

Florida is constantly rebuilding and constantly disappearing.

The small towns change. The roadside attractions close. Familiar buildings are covered with stucco or removed completely. Places that once seemed permanent survive only in memory, waiting for someone to remember what stood there before.

These photographs are my way of returning to the world I thought I already knew.

They are about the overlooked people, strange corners, fading architecture, and quiet moments that exist beyond tourism. They are also about growing older inside a landscape and realizing that while you were watching Florida change, it was watching you change too.

I do not photograph this place from a distance.

I photograph it as someone shaped by its heat, storms, contradictions, loneliness, and impossible light.

Florida is not simply where these photographs were made.

It is the weather inside them.
